The Integration of Ai Language Models in Enhancing Autonomous Writing Skills Among Efl Learners
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) language models has significantly influenced language education, particularly in the field of English as a Foreign Language (EFL). AI-powered tools such as ChatGPT, Grammarly, and other generative AI systems provide learners with immediate feedback, linguistic support, and opportunities for self-directed learning. This article examines the role of AI language models in enhancing autonomous writing skills among EFL learners. Drawing on recent empirical studies, the paper explores how AI technologies contribute to writing development, learner autonomy, motivation, self-regulation, and feedback quality. The findings indicate that AI language models can improve writing accuracy, coherence, vocabulary usage, and organizational skills while encouraging independent learning practices. However, concerns related to overreliance on AI, academic integrity, and critical thinking remain important considerations. The study concludes that AI language models should be integrated into EFL writing instruction through pedagogically guided approaches that promote responsible and autonomous learning.
