Abstract: Introduction. The number of systematic reviews and meta-analyses published in national and international journals is growing considerably. However, a thorough understanding of the methodological aspects of this research phenotype is essential for its proper development and interpretation. Objective. To identify common methodological errors in conducting systematic reviews and meta-analyses. Study Design and Context. Methodical searches were conducted in PubMed, Google Scholar, MEDLINE, Embase, LILACS, WHO, and SciELO to identify systematic reviews and meta-analyses with design flaws. Each article was reviewed by the authors individually, and then the results were discussed together. Conclusion. This research identifies a group of errors in conducting systematic reviews and meta-analyses. Methodological aspects are offered that can guide both reviewers and authors. Confusion with other types of reviews and incorrect statistical analysis stand out among the main difficulties.
