Study design: Systematic Review
Abstract: In light of global challenges and the disruptive nature of today’s organizational environment, employee and organizational resilience are now recognized as key research priorities. However, this concept is inherently linked to employee resilience, as it depends largely on workforce’s ability to adapt, cope effectively with crises and disruptions. Research examining directly the relationship between these two significant concepts in the workplace context is limited, given that most studies have focused on either employee or organizational resilience separately. In this regard, this paper aims to investigate and synthesize the extent of knowledge on both employee and organizational resilience and the main factors that could affect this relationship. Thus, an exhaustive review of 203 papers published between 2016 and 2025 on the Web of Science (WOS) and Scopus was conducted employing the R studio program and the PRISMA procedure, respecting specific inclusion and exclusion criteria. The findings of our study reveal annual and national scientific production, key authors, and principal themes and finally present the emerging topics and gaps related to this research area, hence providing valuable directions for future research in different contexts, industries and cultural contexts. Moreover, the results highlight the link between the resilience of both employees and organizations, underscoring the necessity to improve empirical studies and interdisciplinary research on resilience due to its importance and impact on today’s organizations, especially during period of changes and crises. Although, the integration of significant mediating variables and emergent trends including leadership, well-being and adaptability represents a significant research direction in this context.
