Abstract: Proteomics—the large-scale study of proteins—has rapidly emerged as a powerful tool in forensic biology, providing novel means to identify and quantify biomarkers present in crime scene samples. Unlike DNA, proteins offer functional insights and can persist under conditions where nucleic acids degrade. This review explores advanced proteomic techniques, including mass spectrometry and immunoassays, highlighting their applications in forensic investigations such as body fluid identification, post-mortem interval estimation, and victim-suspect profiling. We examine challenges related to sample complexity, degradation, and data interpretation, while discussing future perspectives that may enhance the accuracy and applicability of proteomic biomarkers in forensic casework
