Design and Development of An Iot-Based Digital Scale for Measuring Cement Weight Using A Load Cell Sensor at Pt Semen Tonasa, Balikpapan Branch
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Manual cement weighing in the industrial environment of PT Semen Tonasa, Balikpapan Branch, is considered inefficient and prone to human error. This study aims to develop a prototype Internet of Things-based digital conveyor weighing system capable of automatically measuring, sorting, and monitoring the weight of cement packages. The system is controlled by an ESP32 microcontroller integrated with a load cell sensor and an HX711 amplifier module to read the dynamic weight of packages moving on the conveyor. The conveyor belt is driven by a DC motor with a BTS7960-series driver, while a servo motor serves as the sorting arm actuator. The system is programmed to recognize a target cement weight of 500 grams with a tolerance of 10 grams. Remote monitoring is performed through a local web server dashboard with a client–server architecture that displays indicators and weighing history charts without excessively burdening the microcontroller memory. Test results show that the system successfully identifies peak loads dynamically, allows on-target packages to proceed, and automatically removes nonconforming packages. The device demonstrates very high accuracy, with an average reading error of only 0.63%. The system exhibits substantially better precision and operational consistency than conventional weighing methods
