Editorial: Translational strategies for chronic lung diseases: emerging therapies and precision medicine
Year: 2026
Type: editorial
Abstract: imposes substantial burden not only on healthcare costs but also on quality of life of patient. Conventional pharmacological approaches use "one size fit approach" that limit their applications in terms of efficacy, long-term safety and associated side effects. Recent advancements in technology and medical science focus on tissue regeneration, stem cell and micro RNA based and target controlled therapies, where therapeutic strategies are proposed to be applied in combination with biological therapies. Employing stem cell-based therapy for lung tissue regeneration, selective edition of culprit nucleotide sequences in genes and modulation of signaltransduction pathways forms exciting frontiers in the respiratory therapeutics.Nextgen biological approaches including, RNA interference (RNAi), (circ)RNAs, micRNAs, shRNA, are also under development to produce novel therapeutic options (Brewer, 2025). Integration of artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms offer interpretation of complex biomarker profiles in short span and felicitate personalized treatment with high accuracy. This integrated algorithm-driven approach not only aid drug discovery but support precision therapy based individual's disease evolution.Landscape of molecular research and their translation has transformed in recent years, However, due to heterogeneity and complex physiology of patient, the roadmap for precision medicine has emerged as revolutionary, novel patient centric strategy leading to highly precised diagnosis, rational disease treatment according to exact biological makeup.Novel precision inhalers built with biosensors and AI-driven algorithms are emerging that enable real time dose adjustments according to variable pulmonary functions. With development of smart biomaterials, delivery of RNA based therapy to the lung is under trials to tailor the dose according to requirement of patient (Calle 2014).However implementation of precision medicine in regular clinical practice is laden with numerous challenges (Bakakos 2025). Precision medicine based therapeutics for chronic respiratory diseases is believed to demonstrate tremendous success in improving patients' quality of life. To bridge the gap between interventional strategies and effective therapeutic outcomes that can favour altering treatment paradigms of Lung adenocarcinoma represents a major histological subtype of non-small cell lung cancer and EGFR mutations commonly seen in Asian countries, women and non-smoking patients are important driver gene variations in lung adenocarcinoma.Cheng-Yi Lin in their case study, reported application of neoadjuvant targeted therapy for improving operative feasibility and offering valuable insights for clinical management of lung adenocarcinoma. The authors suggested administering oral Osimertinib during chemotherapy sessions further followed by thoracoscopic mediastinal lymph node dissection may be signifficant strategy for converting unresectable lung adenocarcinoma to a resectable status. In another case report based on advanced (stage IIIA) lung adenocarcinoma with concurrent KRAS/G13C and TP53 mutations, Ran Chen and team suggested prolonged combined regimen of platinum-doublet chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and anti-angiogenic therapy for better patient outcomes.A retrospective study established clinical evidence for application of interventional bronchoscopy such as laser, electrocautery or cryotherapy for optimizing symptom control and survival in tracheo-bronchial adenoid cystic carcinoma patients. Wei Cao and group provided a foundation for dipotassium glycyrrhizinate as a natural therapeutic agent against ARDS. In their experimental study, dipotassium glycyrrhizinate was found to normalize expression of various pro-inflammatory cytokines, and free radical production as well as improve pulmonary histopathological damage.Systematic review based on compilation of case reports related to Qing-Hao-Bie-Jia Decoction, a representative Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula, that is used to treat cancer-related occurrence of fever highlighted the ability of formula to improve basic metabolism and provided possible mechanism of action of decoction. The researchers reported that formula acts via non-specific immune system by regulating CD13, CD14, CD15, CD33, CD34 and macrophage infiltration in tumor tissues, potentially by intervening the COX/LOX pathway. Due to unavailability of adverse drug reactions/events present in literature, the authors reported gaps in the
