Propagation characteristics of Bessel-Gaussian vortex beams in unstable stratified oceanic turbulence

Type: article
Abstract: We establish a Bessel-Gaussian (BG) vortex-beam transmission model for unstably stratified oceanic turbulence using a spectrum that includes finite outer-scale and eddy-diffusivity effects. The model combines subharmonic compensation with angular-spectrum propagation and is experimentally evaluated using intensity measurements. We examine the effects of turbulent kinetic-energy dissipation rate, mean-square temperature dissipation rate, and temperature-salinity ratio. Stronger turbulence increases intensity fragmentation, phase distortion, and beam wander while reducing mode purity and image quality. Under the selected source conditions, BG beams generally show better mode preservation and structural stability than LG beams.
