Faithful reconstruction of orthogonal circular polarization holography modulated by spatial frequency in TI/PMMA photopolymers

Abstract: This work investigates the recording and faithful reconstruction of polarization holographic gratings in titaniumocene-doped poly (methyl methacrylate) (TI/PMMA) photopolymers under orthogonal circular polarization interference. Faithful reconstruction refers to the condition where the diffracted light has an opposite rotational direction to the reconstructed reference light, i.e., a left-handed circularly polarized (LCP) reference beam reconstructs a right-handed circularly polarized (RCP) diffracted beam, while an RCP reference beam reconstructs an LCP diffracted beam. In our research, we found that faithful reconstruction requires sufficient exposure flux; that is, the intensity of the holographic diffraction grating needs to be stabilized. Meanwhile, as the spatial resolution is varied from 328 to 2658 lines/mm (incident intersection angles of 10°-90°) under different sample thicknesses of 1–3 mm and exposure powers of 10–30 mW, the polarization conversion ratio of faithful reconstruction remains above 92%. A maximum refractive index modulation of 1.3×10 −4 , peak diffraction efficiencies of 88.1%, and a fastest response time of 15.8 s are obtained. These results demonstrate that the TI/PMMA photopolymer is sensitive to circularly polarized light, and, on the basis of maintaining stable holographic properties, it can regulate the polarization state of diffracted light. This can provide support for high-density information storage.
