The "Azerbaijan" Direct-Acting Gas Pressure Regulator: Exhibition Documents of 1967–1968 and Analysis of the Technical Solution

Abstract: This deposit presents archival documents and technical analysis of the “Azerbaijan” (RDG-AS, DU-150) direct-acting gas pressure regulator developed by Abutalib Mir Aga oglu Abdullaev (Candidate of Technical Sciences, Head of the Main Gas Administration of the Ministry of Communal Economy of the Azerbaijan SSR). Released in 1961 and produced serially from 1963 at the Repair and Mechanical Plant of the Ministry, the regulator was exhibited in 1967–1968, awarded a First-Degree Diploma of the Azerbaijan Council of Trade Unions and a Silver Medal of the USSR Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy (VDNKh / EANE, Certificate No. 4051, Resolution No. 328N of 11 December 1968). The materials include the 1968 characteristics sheet, organizational letter of the exhibition committee, the ACTU diploma, and the VDNKh silver-medal certificate. The regulator is a modernization of the American Fulton-type design: the lever-and-counterweight mechanism was replaced by a diaphragm-and-spring system, the copper valve facing by a soft cuff seal, and the parts made modular. These changes expanded the adjustment range, improved maintainability, and reduced dimensions. Technical parameters (1968): inlet 3–12 kgf/cm², outlet 0.05–3 kgf/cm², capacity 1 200 m³/h, dimensions 490×500×320 mm, weight 26 kg. The deposit documents a rare case of independent engineering localization in the Azerbaijan SSR and contributes to the history of Soviet gas-equipment design and import substitution. The documents are published from the originals held in the personal archive of A. M. Abdullaev, which is owned by the author of this deposit. This publication, alongside the deposits 'Safety automatic device "AA" for samovar-type water heaters: 1964–1968 documents and analysis of technical solution', provides an example of the rationalization activities of Soviet-era Azerbaijani engineers. They all complement and document the monograph: A. Alizade, Gasification and Operation of Gas Economy in Azerbaijan (1955—1970) (Zenodo, 2025).
