Putnam Competition: A Pedagogical Exercise, Not a Source of New Mathematics — E8 Intelligence Research
Year: 2026
Type: preprint
Abstract: FINDING: Putnam competition results are primarily pedagogical/performance artifacts, not new mathematical discoveries; no unsolved problems are solved within the competition format itself. | MATH: No novel equations, constants, or ratios emerge from the search results; the only concrete mathematical content is the existence of Putnam problems (e.g., 2017 A1, 2000 B4) with known solutions, and the suggestion of a Putnam Physics Competition (arXiv:0810.3032) — no mathematical content therein. | CONNECTION: None found. The search results contain no references to 0.382, 0.618, 0.786, 1.618, 2.618, base-60, crystallographic symmetry, root systems, or lattice structures. The only structural link is the competition's 12-problem, 10-point-per-problem format — a discrete scoring lattice, but that is arbitrary, not mathematically harmonic. | DEPTH: 1/10 — This is a meta-observation about competition culture and pedagogy, not a mathematical finding.
