The Orbital Enclosure: SpaceX, Planetary Markov Blankets, and the Impasse of Contemporary Astrobioethics

Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: This working paper formalizes the commercial capture of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) as an anthropogenic restructuring of the Earth-system's planetary Markov blanket. Drawing upon the Free Energy Principle (FEP), multiscale active inference, and contemporary astrobioethics, we examine how mega-constellations induce sensory occlusion and kinetic degradation (Kessler Syndrome as entropic phase collapse). We critique the procedural limitations of institutional planetary protection (COSPAR, UN COPUOS) and formulate a threefold tripod of immanent resistance: micro-somatic boundary maintenance, Kierkegaardian meso-temporality, and topological sovereignty at the Kármán line.
