O papel da microbiota intestinal na obesidade
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Obesity is a chronic, non-communicable, and multifactorial disease resulting from an imbalance between energy intake and expenditure, influenced by genetic, environmental, and microbiological factors, such as the gut microbiota. Considering the significant increase in its prevalence in recent decades and its impact on public health, it is essential to understand the mechanisms that contribute to its development. In this context, the objective of this study was to gather evidence on the role of the gut microbiota in obesity. The study was developed through a narrative literature review, with a qualitative and exploratory approach, encompassing publications available in national and international scientific databases. The evidence indicated that an imbalance in the gut microbiota, known as dysbiosis, is associated with chronic low-grade inflammation, insulin resistance, and body fat accumulation. On the other hand, practices that promote microbial balance, such as diets rich in fiber, reduced consumption of ultra-processed foods, and the use of probiotics, demonstrate potential in the prevention and management of obesity. The findings of this study indicated that the gut microbiota plays a relevant role in the mechanisms involved in the development of obesity, standing out as a promising target for the formulation of nutritional and therapeutic strategies aimed at its prevention and treatment.
