Year: 2026
Type: article
Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: Introduction and objective: Misophonia, also known as Selective Sound Sensitivity Syndrome, is a condition that triggers extreme reactions to specific sounds, negatively affecting patients' lives. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between eating habits and the severity of misophonia symptoms, analyzing how different dietary patterns can influence the well-being of individuals with this condition. Materials and methods: A questionnaire was applied to assess symptoms and eating habits of individuals diagnosed with misophonia. The sample consisted of 118 participants of various nationalities, voluntarily recruited through the distribution of the questionnaire on social platforms, without participation restrictions. Statistical analyses were performed using the JASP program, with a statistical significance level of α = 0.05. Results and discussion: Most participants were eutrophic adults, primarily from the United States and Brazil, with self-diagnosed misophonia and a high prevalence of comorbidities such as anxiety, depression, and ADHD. Data analysis revealed that diets with a higher intake of vegetables are associated with reduced symptoms among participants. Conclusion: It is concluded that healthier dietary patterns may contribute positively to the management of misophonia, and further studies with larger samples and complementary methods are recommended.
