Emotional intelligence and happiness in academic librarians: A cross-sectional analysis
Year: 2026
Type: article
Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: The authors conducted a mixed-methods study to examine emotional intelligence and happiness of academic librarians in a cross-sectional analysis following up on previous studies. The researchers sought to understand whether respondents who rated themselves as highly emotional intelligent would rate themselves as satisfied with life; the researchers also sought to understand whether academic librarians who responded to this study had meaningful differences in happiness and emotional intelligence than librarians who responded to the original study in 2020. Results from this study show that academic librarians' self-reported levels of satisfaction with life and emotional intelligence were within average range for both instruments, however, these numbers were lower than the previous study and examples from the qualitative section of this research bear that out. Finally, the authors discuss limitations, implications for future research, and conclusions.
