A Domination‐Based Sampled‐Data PID Control for Global Regulation of Nonlinear Planar Systems

Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: ABSTRACT This article investigates the global regulation problem of nonlinear planar systems via sampled‐data proportional–integral–derivative (PID) control on the basis of the feedback domination technique. By embedding a tunable domination gain into a meticulously crafted state transformation, the proposed design methodology successfully induces an auxiliary kernel system that effectively enforces the latent linearity within the nonlinear system, leading to a framework that not only provides an intuitive, explicit, and implementable guideline for judiciously determining the ultimate PID control gains but also delivers the precise analytical derivation of the maximum allowable sampling period to satisfactorily resolve the literature scarcity in the field. Under the core spirit of the feedback domination technique, the linearity of the kernel system can be purposely extracted to facilitate an optimality‐driven process for the gain selection, and the precise characterization of the maximum allowable sampling period further enables a profound exploration into its upper bound dictated by actual hardware constraints, while rendering the resulting sampled‐data PID control capable of consistently achieving both the global asymptotic regulation task and the boundedness of the closed‐loop system states. Finally, the theoretical potency and practical utility of the developed scheme are soundly validated through a representative numerical example.
