Abstract: The #MeToo movement has been central to debates over sexual harassment and assault, yet public responses remain sharply divided. Existing research shows gendered and partisan fault lines in public opinion but relies largely on closed-ended survey measures. We extend this work by analyzing how Americans describe #MeToo in their own words and how they position themselves relative to the movement. Using hundreds of open-ended survey responses, we examine how gender, partisanship, and their intersection shape tone and thematic associations. We find that partisanship is the dominant driver of responses, with some modest gender differences within parties.
