Structural and Functional Periodicity of the Nucleus: A New Basis for Chemistry

Year: 2026
Type: preprint
Abstract: Nuclear physics and chemistry have so far been treated as two independent phenomena, the established view of the atom being that of a dense nucleus, centre of mass and charge, surrounded by an electron cloud producing the functional properties of the system. We show here that the nucleus has a periodic structure following exactly the same rhythm as the chemical function. The demonstration rests on independent public corpora, read directly and without any adjustable parameter: the map of the stable isotopes arranged by neutron excess, whose periods are sequenced isotope by isotope from hydrogen to lead, the quantitative analysis of chemical bonding (oxidation states, co-valences, hydrides, fluorides and lithium combinations) compared element by element against the same layout, and the ionisation energies of every electron of every atom, whose walls reproduce the same periods, shell by shell. These converging correlations imply a revision of our conception of the atom: the object described by the data is an extended structure in shells, with no cloud but localised electrons, whose outer shell produces the function.
