Year: 2026
Type: article
Study design: Systematic Review
Abstract: Introduction: Bipolar disorder (BD) is a severe psychiatric condition characterized by extreme mood fluctuations, ranging from manic episodes to depressive states. Despite the advancements in understanding the pathophysiology of BD, numerous factors continue to worsen the course and prognosis of the disorder. Objectives: This systematic review aims to explore the literature on various factors that exacerbate the symptoms and progression of BD, such as effect of melatonin, solar light, biological clock, genetics, nor-adrenaline and dopamine reductase, reductase in tyramine containing diet. These factors are crucial for identifying individuals at higher risk for adverse outcomes to improve treatment adherence, enhance mood stabilization and reduce relapse rates. Methods: Various literature search was carried out from different databases such as Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science, Google Scholar and ScienceDirect to cover this review. Conclusions: The findings underscore the need for a comprehensive, multidimensional approach to managing Bipolar Disease, focusing not only on pharmacological interventions but also on psychosocial support and personalized care.
