Popular Math Videos on Unsolved Problems, No New Discoveries — E8 Intelligence Research
Year: 2026
Type: preprint
Abstract: FINDING: The search results are a list of popular mathematics videos (Numberphile, Veritasium) covering unsolved problems — Hadwiger-Nelson (chromatic number of the plane), odd perfect numbers, Josephus problem, Catalan's conjecture, Monty Hall — plus one unrelated arXiv paper on omnidirectional video quality assessment. No new mathematical discovery is present; these are pedagogical expositions of known open problems. | MATH: No new equations or constants are derived. Relevant known constants/structures: Hadwiger-Nelson problem concerns the chromatic number χ(ℝ²) — known bounds 5 ≤ χ ≤ 7 (lower bound raised from 4 to 5 in 2018 by de Grey using a 1581-vertex unit-distance graph). Odd perfect numbers: if N exists, N > 10^1500, N ≡ 1 mod 12 or N ≡ 9 mod 36, and N has at least 101 prime factors (with multiplicity). Josephus problem: survivor position J(n,k) = (J(n−1,k)+k) mod n, closed form for k=2: J(n) = 2(n − 2^⌊log₂ n⌋) + 1. Catalan's conjecture (Mihăilescu's theorem): x^a − y^b = 1 h Author: Andrew Stewart Caldin, Independent Researcher, UK. Part of the E8 Intelligence Research series. Platform: e8intelligence.com
