Highly efficient hybrid white organic light-emitting diodes with suppressed efficiency roll-off based on dual triplet-management strategy

Abstract: Achieving high efficiency with suppressed efficiency roll-off remains a critical challenge for multi-resonance thermally activated delayed fluorescence (MR-TADF)-based white organic light-emitting diodes (WOLEDs). Herein, a dual triplet-management strategy is proposed to regulate the triplet behavior of MR-TADF emitters. This strategy combines an exciplex host with a TADF drainage process, resulting in suppressed triplet exciton accumulation on the MR-TADF emitter. As a result, the efficiency roll-off is reduced. The complementary-color hybrid WOLED achieves a maximum current efficiency (CE) of 60.9 cd/A and a maximum external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 23.5%. It also shows a reduced EQE roll-off of only 15.7% at 1000 cd/m 2 . Furthermore, an ultrathin saturated-red emitter layer is introduced to broaden the emission spectrum. The resulting device achieves a high color rendering index of 86.1 owing to enhanced saturated red emission. These results demonstrate an effective strategy for developing high-performance MR-TADF-based hybrid WOLEDs, paving the way toward their practical applications in next-generation solid-state lighting and display technologies.
