Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Contemporary Islamic education faces various challenges, including the dichotomy of knowledge, the tension between faith and science, religious exclusivism, and the crisis of rationality and critical thinking in the digital era. This study aims to analyze the relevance of Al-Kindi's thought in understanding and responding to these problems through a study of the work of F? al-Falsafah al-?l?. This study uses a qualitative approach with literature study methods and content analysis techniques. Primary data is in the form of Al-Kindi's works translated by Adamson and Pormann, while secondary data is obtained from relevant academic literature. Analysis is carried out through tracing arguments in primary texts, comparisons with secondary sources, and critical interpretations of their relevance to contemporary Islamic education. The results of the study show that Al-Kindi's thought can be reconstructed through four main aspects, namely the alignment of the goals of revelation and reason, openness to the truth without limiting its origins, the connectedness of knowledge culminating in the recognition of God, and criticism of the rejection of philosophy based on certain interests. These four aspects provide a conceptual foundation for the development of Islamic education that is integrative, dialogical, open to the development of science, and oriented towards strengthening critical reason. This study contributes to the development of a conceptual framework of Islamic education that connects classical philosophical thought with the challenges of contemporary education in a critical manner.
