Archival eclipses identify a close stellar companion of HD 202634
Year: 2026
Type: preprint
Abstract: A research note identifying a strongly supported close eclipsing stellar companion of the known star HD 202634 (TIC 415685424; Gaia DR3 6832999436987793408). TESS, independently acquired NEOWISE, ASAS and NSVS photometry, and Gaia radial-velocity variability support a period near 2.4703 days. A further fixed-ephemeris test detects the primary eclipse in 1,262 quality-selected Harvard DASCH photographic measurements from 1900 to 1949. The star’s published TARS variability entry and its known wide companion are acknowledged. No guaranteed worldwide priority, official new component designation or dynamical companion mass is claimed. APPLAUSE and AllWISE limitations, historical time assumptions and correlated/systematic uncertainties are documented. The package provides retrieved observations, code, image localization, query provenance and SHA-256 inventories. CC BY 4.0 applies to original author text, figures and derived analysis; third-party observation and software rights remain with their owners. OpenAI Codex assisted searches, code, verification, visualization and drafting. No synthetic astronomical observations were generated. This is an independent observational preprint; no independent specialist review or journal acceptance is claimed.
