Abstract: General Background Centrifugal pumps play a critical role in industrial fluid transport systems by converting rotational kinetic energy into hydrostatic head. Specific Background In industrial plant operations such as waste water treatment processes, maintaining consistent suction pressure is essential for reliable pumping operations. Knowledge Gap Although flow resistance causes head loss, severe discharge pressure loss caused by suction strainer fouling in industrial process pumps requires detailed empirical investigation. Aims This study investigates the root causes of a critical pressure drop in a centrifugal pump system at CV. KYZ and evaluates corrective maintenance interventions. Results Field observations and fishbone analysis revealed that suction strainer clogging by solid waste reduced normal discharge pressure from 4 bar to nearly 0 bar, inducing severe cavitation. Novelty Systematic field diagnosis demonstrates the direct empirical correlation between suction strainer blockage, severe head loss, and NPSHa reduction in industrial waste water lines. Implications Implementing structured preventive maintenance, routine strainer flushing, and differential pressure monitoring restores normal discharge performance and prevents operational downtime. Key Findings Highlights Suction Strainer Clogging Drastically Reduces Discharge Pressure Flow Restriction Decreases Net Positive Suction Head Available Routine Maintenance And Strainer Flushing Restore Operating Performance Keywords Centrifugal Pump, Pressure Drop, Suction Strainer, Head Loss, Preventive Maintenance
