Abstract: This article draws on a variety of theological, sociological, and anthropological threads of thought from Otto to Berger, from Pascal to Martin, to (dis)entangle metaphorical and implicitly religious properties of the Web. By adding a religio-spiritual dimension to the unending quest to understand the fuller circle of ideas in which technology is implicated, the thought-worlds of sociology and theology can be brought into more constructive conversation than has typically been the case in the modern period. As a contribution to understanding contemporary techno-religion, this article provides a framework for exploring pre-modern theo-spiritual residues implicit in the postmodern habitus of the internet.
