Neurologists' Willingness to Adopt Telehealth: Key Roles of Age and Medical Service Provider Innovativeness

Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: :Purpose: The goal of this research is to define the intention to adopt the telehealth technology for neurology doctors in Egypt Design/methodology/ approach: We are going to use quantitative design in our research study to test our hypotheses after collecting numerical data from samples using questionnaire and this is the method will be utilized in the study because our philosophy is positivism and the chosen approach is deductive. Statistical analysis was conducted using PLS-SEM method and SmartPLS software package to examine the proposed measurement and structural models and to test the study hypotheses. The analysis was based on the responses of the 160 respondents who answered “No” to the screening question: “Have you previously used telehealth technology to deliver formal online patient consultations?” Findings: With respect to the direct relationships, all five hypotheses concerning the determinants of Attitude—Performance Expectancy (H1), Social Influence (H2), Effort Expectancy (H3), Training and Education (H4), and Medical Service Provider Innovativeness (H5)—are supported. The results indicate positive and statistically significant relationships between each of these constructs and Attitude toward the Intention to Adopt Telehealth. Attitude toward the Intention to Adopt Telehealth has a strong positive and statistically significant relationship with Intention to Adopt Telehealth (β = 0.742, t = 18.96, p < 0.001, f² = 0.64), Gender demonstrates statistically significant moderating effects for Effort Expectancy, Medical Service Provider Innovativeness, and Training and Education, but not for Performance Expectancy or Social Influence. Accordingly, Age significantly moderates the relationships involving Performance Expectancy, Social Influence, Medical Service Provider Innovativeness, and Training and Education, whereas its moderating effect on the Effort Expectancy–Attitude relationship is not statistically significant. Implications: Hospital administrators should prioritize continuous training and professional development programs focusing on telehealth competencies. Telehealth platforms should be designed with user-friendly interfaces that minimize complexity and learning effort. Originality: Another important dimension we aim to explore is the impact of age and the innovativeness of the medical service provider on telehealth adoption In Egypt. These factors have received limited attention in existing literature, making them particularly interesting to investigate. Paper type: Research paper.
