Digitalisation of endometriosis diagnostics: Current state and prospects of development. Literature review
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Relevance. Endometriosis is a chronic disease characterised by a pronounced pain syndrome, a significant impact on the quality of life, and fertility problems in patients of reproductive age. Long-term monitoring of symptoms requires systematic collection of information, which creates prerequisites for the use of digital technologies in patient management. However, the functionality of contemporary digital solutions and their compliance with clinical needs in endometriosis remain insufficiently systematised. Purpose. To summarise up-to-date scientific data on digital technologies used to monitor the symptoms and condition of patients with endometriosis, and to identify their main functionality, limitations, and requirements for further development of digital solutions. Materials and methods. The scientific literature was reviewed using bibliosemantic and comparative methods. The 2010-2026 publications were searched in the PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar databases using combinations of keywords related to endometriosis, digital technology, mobile applications, symptom monitoring, and digital phenotyping. A comparative description of digital solutions was carried out, consider their primary purpose, data types, methods of their collection, and analytical processing capabilities. Results. It was established that innovative digital solutions mainly provide the collection of self-reported data on pain syndrome, menstrual and other symptoms, functional state, quality of life, and treatment. Separate platforms allow monitoring and digital phenotyping of patients. The solutions under consideration differ in their original purpose and are not interchangeable. The possibilities of integrating clinical data, standardised information exchange with medical systems, and supporting clinical decisions remain limited. Digital questionnaires and diaries mainly form self-reported indicators and cannot be automatically considered as a source of objective physiological data. Conclusions. Digital technologies have the potential to systematically monitor symptoms and form a longitudinal digital profile of patients with endometriosis. Further advancement of such solutions requires the development of standard functional and clinical requirements, determination of the clinical role of individual data types and their implementation. For the conditions of Ukraine, the appropriate next stage is to investigate the needs of patients and medical professionals, the possibilities of localisation and integration of existing digital solutions, which will help to substantiate the feasibility of their adaptation or development of a new product.
