Pulsed-field travelling-wave magnetophoresis: constant-velocity vs stepwise bead transport
Year: 2026
Type: other
Abstract: Side-by-side comparison of two dark-field microscopy recordings of superparamagnetic particles (Dynabeads M-270, diameter 2.8 micrometer) transported above an exchange-bias layer system with a 5 micrometer head-to-head/tail-to-tail stripe domain pattern (period 10 micrometer).Left (Video 6): equal field pulse amplitudes Hx,0 = Hz,0 = 2 kA/m, giving transport at almost constant velocity. Right (Video 7): Hx,0 = 2 kA/m, Hz,0 = 4 kA/m, giving periodically varying velocity with two bursts per field period. Sinusoidal field pulses of 1 Hz along x and z with 90° phase difference; shown approximately in real time. The plot below the videos shows the mean bead velocity obtained by tracking about 230 beads per frame.Supplementary material to: Pulsed-field travelling-wave magnetophoresis of magnetic microparticles I–III.
