Characterization and genome analysis of IME1318_01, a novel temperate bacteriophage induced from Staphylococcus haemolyticus

Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: In this investigation, a drug-resistant Staphylococcus haemolyticus strain, termed Sah1318,was stored in the laboratory of State Key Laboratory of Pathogen and Biosecurity, Beijing Institute of Microbiology and Epidemiology. Employing a synergistic approach of Next-Generation, we discerned a putative temperate bacteriophage embedded in the bacterial genome. Subsequent experimental validation affirmed that the S. haemolyticus strain Sah1318 is a carrier of a temperate bacteriophage, dubbed IME1318_01 (GenBank Accession Number: KY653116), which is a member of the Azeredovirinae family. This bacteriophage, encompassing 45,236 base pairs with a G+C content of 34.50%, consists of 61 open reading frames (ORFs) and is devoid of tRNA and genes encoding antibiotic-resistance.
