Administrator Logbook Framework: A Hermeneutic Phenomenological Analysis of the Lived Experiences of Parents of Children Diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder

Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Inclusive education requires coordinated support that responds to families’ lived realities. This hermeneutic phenomenological study explored how eight Filipino parents of children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder interpreted their experiences across family, educational, professional, and community systems. Criterion-based purposive sampling was used at CARE Learning and Development Center in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan. Analysis drew on available written responses because participants did not consent to audio or video recording. Repeated reading, identification of significant experiential statements, interpretation of meanings, and comparison across accounts generated four themes: Emotional Journey of Acceptance, Parental Coping and Support Systems, Educational Collaboration and Inclusion, and Hope and Empowerment. Acceptance involved ongoing reconstruction of expectations; coping depended on relationships and accessible resources; inclusion required communication, accommodation, and shared responsibility; and hope developed through individualized progress and growing parental agency. Continuous Navigation integrated these meanings as an ongoing process of adjustment, learning, collaboration, and advocacy. Three administrative needs—Know the Learner, Track the Support, and Connect the System—provided the basis for the proposed Administrator Logbook Framework. Its domains are Intake and Environmental Profiling, Active IEP Tracking and Accountability, and Collaborative and Systemic Integration. The framework remains an emergent prototype whose feasibility, usability, acceptability, and effectiveness require subsequent investigation.
