Why one commentary by Sigaud and colleagues should not be used to assess our work on the psychology of digital technologies
Year: 2026
Type: preprint
Abstract: A recent commentary on our work suggested that it “should not be used to assess the impact of social media on adolescent mental health” because we “blended” data inappropriately, allowed industry influence our research, used data in problematic ways, were unable to infer causation, and made unfounded claims (Sigaud et al., 2026). We address these claims and identify how each misunderstands or misrepresents our work.
