Intelligent Technology Adoption, Employee Digital Training, and Innovation Efficiency: Examining Employee Performance in the Financial Industry
Year: 2026
Type: article
Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: Purpose: This study examines the association between intelligent technology adoption and employee performance in the financial industry and evaluates whether innovation efficiency and employee digital training explain and condition this relationship. The study responds to the growing use of artificial intelligence, robotic process automation, analytics, digital channels, and decision-support systems in banking, insurance, investment, and fintech work. Method: A quantitative cross-sectional survey was conducted with 386 employees in the financial industry. Intelligent technology adoption, employee digital training, innovation efficiency, and employee performance were measured using reflective multi-item scales adapted from relevant literature. The data were analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM), including assessments of reliability, convergent validity, discriminant validity, direct paths, the specific indirect effect, the interaction effect, explanatory power, and predictive relevance. Findings: Intelligent technology adoption was positively associated with employee performance and innovation efficiency. Innovation efficiency was positively associated with employee performance and carried a significant indirect association between intelligent technology adoption and employee performance. The interaction between intelligent technology adoption and employee digital training was positive and significant, indicating that the adoption-performance association was stronger at higher levels of digital training. Originality/Implications: The study integrates technology adoption theory, human-capital capability logic, socio-technical systems thinking, and dynamic capability arguments to explain employee-level performance in financial services. It empirically evaluates innovation efficiency as an explanatory mechanism and employee digital training as a boundary condition. The findings indicate that financial institutions should combine AI and automation adoption with role-specific digital training, workflow redesign, and innovation-efficiency metrics.
