Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: This article aims to analyze how teacher mediation during story reading can promote interaction and participation among four-year-old children in Early Childhood Education. Literary reading provides an important opportunity for the development of language, imagination, listening skills, and knowledge construction, especially when it is carried out in a meaningful and participatory manner. In this context, the teacher plays an important role in organizing activities that encourage children to express their opinions, ask questions, anticipate events, and share their interpretations of stories. Methodologically, this study is characterized as bibliographic research with a qualitative approach and descriptive nature, based on the analysis of books, scientific articles, and educational documents related to children's literature, teacher mediation, and child development. The literature review allows the identification of relevant pedagogical strategies, such as exploring illustrations, asking open-ended questions, encouraging dialogue during storytelling, oral retelling, and expressive activities after reading. These practices can expand opportunities for children's participation and contribute to more welcoming and interactive reading experiences. It is concluded that teacher mediation plays a fundamental role in bringing children closer to literature. Therefore, teachers should value children's expressions, respect their different learning paces, and promote opportunities for listening, dialogue, and the collective construction of meaning.
