Eccrine angiomatous hamartoma of the external auditory canal: a case report
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Eccrine angiomatous hamartoma (EAH) is a rare benign malformation characterized by eccrine gland proliferation within a vascular stroma, typically presenting in childhood and commonly affecting the extremities. Adult-onset and atypical anatomical sites are uncommon. We report a case of EAH in a 26-year-old patient involving the external auditory canal (EAC), representing an exceptionally rare presentation supported by distinctive histopathological features. We report a rare case of eccrine angiomatous hamartoma (EAH) in a 26-year-old Middle-Eastern Syrian female presenting with conductive hearing loss and recurrent otorrhea for 1 year. Otoscopy revealed a soft, well-defined mass obstructing the cartilaginous external auditory canal partially. The lesion was excised completely through a transcanal approach, and histopathology subsequently confirmed the diagnosis of EAH. At a 12-month follow-up, no recurrence was observed. This case underscores the importance of including EAH in the differential diagnosis of unusual masses within the external auditory canal. In this patient, complete surgical excision achieved histopathological confirmation and symptom resolution, restoring canal patency without recurrence during the follow-up period.
