The Pre-existential Election Through the Ontologically Existing Christ Argument: A Theological, Philosophical, and Exegetical Defense of the Pre-Existence of Christ

Abstract: This argument proves that Jesus Christ had to exist as a real, living person before the universe was made. Groups like the Iglesia ni Cristo claim that Jesus was just a plan or an abstract idea in God’s mind before creation, arguing that since human believers were also chosen before the creation of the world despite not yet existing, Jesus did not need to physically exist either. This thinking commits a major logical mistake by confusing the future people being chosen with the real instrument used to choose them. The fundamental rule of logic here is that you cannot execute a real action or anchor a decree through a tool that does not exist. While human beings existed only as a future plan in God's mind before the foundation of the world, they were explicitly chosen in and through Jesus Christ. For Jesus to serve as the actual anchor and mediator of that divine choice, He had to possess real, conscious, and objective existence in eternity alongside the Father. This is supported by biblical history, where future, non-existent children are often the subject of a divine decree based entirely on the concrete existence of a living father like David. Furthermore, the original Greek texts confirm that Christ was loved by the Father before creation and that being foreknown simply meant He was hidden in eternity before being revealed in time. Ultimately, humans were the future plan, but Jesus was the ontologically real Mediator who held that plan together from the very beginning.
