Can the policy-based agricultural credit guarantee influence farmers’ adoption of straw-returning technology?

Abstract: Promoting straw-returning technology is an important way to shift agricultural production from extensive, energy-intensive practices to green, sustainable development. This paper uses the fractional probit model to empirically analyze the impact of policy-based agricultural credit guarantee (PACG) on farmers’ adoption of straw-returning technology. The study found that: (1) PACG has a significant role in promoting farmers’ adoption of straw-returning technology, and a consistent conclusion can be drawn after using instrumental variables to address endogeneity problems. (2) PACG promotes farmers’ application of straw-returning technology by promoting their purchase of agricultural social services and matching between the green credit term and the green production cycle. (3) The impact of PACG on farmers’ adoption of straw-returning technology varies among different farmers, and it has a more significant impact on farmers with a lack of formal social capital and a high level of digital literacy, and in agricultural green development pioneer areas.
