StudyGenAI: A Comprehensive Review of Multimodal Generative AI and Spaced Repetition in Modern EdTech
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Traditional education heavily relies on passive reading from static textbooks and unstructured handwritten notes, leading to inefficient study habits and poor long-term retention. This review explores the paradigm shift from standard Learning Management Systems (LMS) to AI-driven educational platforms. We review the integration of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), Multimodal Optical Character Recognition (OCR), and the SuperMemo-2 (SM-2) spaced repetition algorithm to facilitate active recall. Finally, we propose the architecture for 'StudyGenAI,' a platform designed to automate student revision and weakness tracking.
