Hubungan Antara Budaya, Nilai Sosial, dan Pembentukan Kepribadian Individu: Kajian Literatur
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: A person's personality is shaped by their social and cultural surroundings. Using a literature review approach, this article seeks to investigate the connection between culture, social values, and the development of an individual's personality. Books on personality psychology, theories of culture and society, and pertinent national and international journal articles are among the sources consulted. The findings demonstrate how culture functions as a framework of values that shapes people's thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and interpretations of life. Children pick up social values like collaboration and respect for their parents, Mutual aid, self-reliance, and accountability are all components of the socialisation process that moulds a person's personality. Peers, family, school, the community, religion, and the media all serve as socialisation agents that impart cultural values to people. Individualistic cultures prioritise individuality, self-expression, and personal success, while collectivist societies typically promote peace, cooperation, and social concern. However, a person's culture does not fully define them. People can carefully evaluate and cultivate cultural values through education, life experiences, intercultural communication, and critical thinking. Therefore, rather than being a passive inheritance of cultural ideals, personality is the outcome of a dynamic interplay between individuals and culture.
