Abstract: INTRODUCTION. In general practice, many consultations are prompted by chronic psychosomatic distress. Given the limitations of long-term pharmacological treatments, non-pharmacological interventions are attracting growing interest. Among these, mindfulness-based meditation (MBM) is experiencing significant growth. This study aims to map the validated clinical indications in primary care and to clarify the methods of applying MBM. MATERIALS AND METHODS. An international systematic review of the literature was conducted in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines, using the PubMed, Cochrane Library, Sudoc and LiSSa databases. The two co-authors have selected and analysed the articles independently. Only studies presenting a high level of evidence (level 1 or 2 according to the Haute Autorité de Santé classification) were included. RESULTS. A total of 161 articles were included. MBM has been shown to be highly effective in treating sleep disorders, reducing stress and preventing depressive relapses. In chronic pain, its benefit arises from attentional decoupling, which reduces catastrophising. In addiction treatment, MBM reduces cravings but proves ineffective as monotherapy for strict long-term smoking or alcohol abstinence. MBM intervention methods are diverse. They include established standardised face-to-face protocols (MBSR, MBCT), targeted thematic programmes (addictions, insomnia, obesity), brief attentional or physical exercises, as well as a significant rise in digital formats. CONCLUSION. MBM appears to be a promising complementary non-pharmacological treatment in primary care, particularly in the areas of mental health, sleep, and chronic pain. General practitioners can therefore rely on different formats of MBM to tailor treatment to the patient’s clinical profile. Further research appears necessary to assess the feasibility and effectiveness of MBM prescribed in general practice.
