Abstract: Our aim is to investigate, in the Nietzschean corpus, the meanings of great politics conceiving its relation with the methodological transformations in Nietzsche’s oeuvre. In this scenario, the guiding question of our paper is: how can we understand the meaning of great politics in Nietzsche’s philosophy? Our hypothesis is that this concept operates on two levels: initially, as a critical category for critiquing nationalism; later, as a propositive concept reframed through genealogical analysis, grounded in a physio-psychological framework. As a way to test our hypothesis, we shall divide this paper into three sections. In the first section, we will examine the sense of great politics formulated in reference to nationalism, developed primarily within a historical philosophy. In the second one, we will analyse the methodological change in Nietzsche’s oeuvre, through the genealogical procedure, with which the new landscape of great politics emerges. Finally, we shall investigate the Nietzschean meaning of great politics in relation to physio-psychology. In this sense, we propose that the shift of the concept takes place through Nietzsche’s treatment of the question of values.
