Guth and Vilenkin's rejection as a premise: the toroidal universe is not born out of nothing, because it carries memory.

Abstract: In arXiv:2508.08747, Guth and Vilenkin show that the quantum creation of a toroidal universe "from nothing" cannot be described within semiclassical gravity: it is either impossible or requires Planckian physics. We propose a reading of this negative result: a toroidal vacuum cannot be created "from nothing" because compact topology carries its own vacuum energy (Casimir contribution, Zeldovich & Starobinsky, 1984). A space with topology is a space with memory. We argue that this supports a model in which the universe emerges not from nothing but from a state of a hysteresis-like medium (Preisach-type), as developed in notes 1–6 [DOI]. The refusal of the semiclassical method is then not an objection to toroidal topology, but evidence that "creation from nothing" and "topology" are mutually exclusive categories. A falsifier is proposed: if the scenario is wrong, no phase-boundary signatures should correlate between CMB large-scale anomalies and late-time expansion data.
