Abstract: Why Research into and Testing of the Acta Universi Hypothesis Matters for AI Systems Status. Methodological and strategic argument. This text does not claim that the Acta Universi (AU) hypothesis is true, nor that current AI systems possess understanding or interests. It argues that the AU framework intersects with problems that already constrain the development, evaluation and safety of advanced AI, and that systematic testing of its sharper claims is therefore relevant to the AI research and deployment community.
