Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: Objective: In this study, we aimed to evaluate the relationship between red cell distribution width (RDW) and mean platelet volume (MPV) levels and disease severity in pediatric patients followed in the pediatric intensive care unit with a diagnosis of sepsis or septic shock, to investigate the correlations of these biomarkers with procalcitonin, C-reactive protein (CRP), lactate, PRISM, and pSOFA scores, and to assess their diagnostic performance. Methods: This retrospective observational study included 243 pediatric patients aged 1 month to 18 years admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit with sepsis or septic shock.RDW, MPV, procalcitonin, CRP, lactate, PRISM, and pSOFA scores obtained at admission were analyzed.Non-parametric tests were used for group comparisons.Receiver operating characteristic analysis for 28-day mortality, and age-based subgroup analyses, were performed.
