Abstract: AIM: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of Closed kinematic chain exercises versus Open kinematic chain exercises on knee extensor strength, gait velocity and functional strength of lower limb in subjects with subacute stroke. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study is to evaluate and compare the efficacy of Closed kinematic chain exercises versus Open kinematic chain exercises on knee extensor strength by using Biodex system 4 pro Isokinetic dynamometer, on Gait velocity by 10-Meter walk test, on Functional strength of affected lower limb by 5-repetititon sit-to-stand test. BACKGROUND: Stroke is a rapidly developing clinical sign of focal disturbances in cerebral function with symptoms lasting 24 hours or longer or leading to death with no apparent cause other than vascular origin. In stroke recovery the exercises plays an important role in which Progressive resistance training includes Closed kinematic chain exercises (CKC) and Open kinematic chain exercises (OKC). CKC exercises are the exercises that involve the fixed distal ends creating compressive forces whereas the OKC exercises are the type of exercises in which the distal ends are movable and helps in improving strength and proprioception.
