Mayaro Virus Emergence and Genetic Dynamics, Peru

Abstract: Mayaro virus (MAYV) is an emerging pathogen in Latin America. Using phylodynamic reconstructions and phylowave analyses, we describe novel lineage diversification and rapid dispersal of MAYV in Peru. A newly developed, dual-target quantitative reverse transcription PCR assay reliably detects MAYV variants, enabling improved surveillance, control, and understanding of this neglected arbovirus.
