Abstract: As shown in the Chapter 2.1, PCA was applied to the standardized ozone anomaly fields to reduce the dimensionality of the dataset while retaining the dominant modes of spatial variability.The first 40 principal components (PCs) explain 72.2% of the total variance, with the explained variance decreasing progressively from 8.1% for PC1 to less than 1% for each PC from PC23.The first 40 PCs were therefore retained as a compromise between preserving the dominant variability of the ozone
