Year: 2026

Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: The study of suicide risk is crucial in health sciences, as it helps identify individuals at risk based on specific traits and allows for effective prevention strategies. This research identified the factors that discriminates between individuals who present a low or high suicide risk, considering variables such as gender, age, education level, impulsivity, social support network, social dysfunction, coping strategies, and anxiety/depression. A cross-sectional design was used with a sample of 309 individuals (62% women). Through stepwise discriminant analysis, it was found that the most important factors for identifying individuals at high risk of suicide were anxiety/depression, impulsivity, and avoidant coping strategies. Correct classification rates above chance were 25% for the high-risk suicide group and 31.4% for the low-risk group. These findings highlight key elements for psychosocial interventions in the area of suicide prevention.
