Digital Transformation and Operational Efficiency in Banking Under Regulatory Solvency Requirements
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Background Current literature suggests that digitalisation could improve banking efficiency by reducing costs, facilitating technological integration and expanding the range of services on offer, but its impact depends on institutional conditions and capabilities. Method A quantitative method was used, employing a non-experimental longitudinal design at the explanatory level. Information was gathered from three banks through a literature review and organised into a panel format; this data was then subjected to descriptive analysis and multivariate regression using HC3 and Driscoll–Kraay standard error types. Results Digitalisation increased from 33.17 to 78.39 and had a positive impact on operational efficiency (β = 0.312). Regulatory solvency strengthened this relationship (β = 0.142); no significant moderation was found for the geographical variable. Investment technology had the greatest impact (β = 0.347), followed by the digitalisation of services (β = 0.231); automation was not found to be significant. Conclusion Digital transformation has a positive effect on operational efficiency through investment in technology, the digitalisation of services and adequate regulatory capital adequacy.
