How Judgment Consciousness Generates Reflective Consciousness An Interpretation of the Teaching Mechanism from Cognitive Understanding to Rational Education

Year: 2026
Type: preprint
Abstract: The transition from cognitive understanding to reflective consciousness requires an intermediate transformation from understanding to judgment and from judgment to reflection. Judgment consciousness refers to the conscious process through which students, after understanding knowledge, examine knowledge, viewpoints, and their own cognition in terms of correctness, rationality, conditionality, comparability, and revisability. Once activated, judgment consciousness prompts students to employ such thinking tools as evidence awareness, logical reasoning, conceptual clarification, contextual analysis, boundary identification, comparative analysis, counterfactual thinking, and plan reconstruction, and, through sustained training, promotes the internalization of these tools and the formation of a rational mode of thinking. The model can be summarized as a rational education model of "information input — cognitive understanding — judgment consciousness — internalization of thinking tools — correction of insufficiently rational judgments — reflective consciousness — creative thinking." Around this model, pedagogical translation can be advanced through classroom questioning, problem situations, evidence examination, counterexample training, argumentative expression, assessment rubrics, and instructional experiment design. The model helps explain the generative mechanism of students' reflective consciousness and contributes to deepening research on rational education, key competencies, and the cultivation of innovative talent.
