Study design: Clinical Trial
Abstract: Fine motor stimulation for 5–6-year-old children at RA Nurul Iman Padang was still dominated by drawing and coloring, so more varied and meaningful activities were needed. This study aimed to determine the effect of tie-dye batik activities on tote bags on children’s fine motor skills. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method and a pretest-posttest control group design was used. Using purposive sampling, 15 children of Group B1 formed the experimental class and 15 children of Group B2 formed the control class. Data were collected with a 12-item observation sheet that was expert-validated (98%), valid (calculated r 0.909–0.964 > table r 0.456), and reliable (Cronbach’s Alpha 0.991). Child safety procedures (K3) were applied throughout the dyeing process. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk test, Levene’s test, a paired-samples t-test, and an independent-samples t-test in SPSS 25. The mean posttest score of the experimental class (81.93) was higher than that of the control class (67.50), with t = −5.439 and Sig. (2-tailed) < 0.001, so H0 was rejected. Tie-dye batik activities on tote bags have a significant effect on the fine motor skills of 5–6-year-old children and can serve as an alternative fine motor stimulation activity in early childhood education institutions. Because the study involved one institution and no retention test, the findings should be generalized with caution.
