The Geometric Continuum: Addressing Temporal and Structural Limitations in Modern AI through Spatiotemporal Manifolds
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Modern AI, dominated by the Transformer architecture, treats information processing as a static, discrete operation over flat vector spaces. While highly effective for surface-level pattern matching, this paradigm lacks an inherent understanding of time and structural hierarchy. It processes language as a two-dimensional grid of token-layer coordinates, rendering it fundamentally incapable of authentic temporal reasoning, fluid continuous learning, or tracking dynamic context without massive computational overhead. This position paper posits that true cognitive architecture requires a paradigm shift: transitioning from discrete, arithmetic calculation to continuous navigation over an optical substrate. By embedding information processing within photonic spatiotemporal manifolds—and introducing Holographic Imprinting to resolve the optical memory bottleneck—we construct a theoretical framework for dynamical systems where reasoning is a trajectory, context is a resonant topological shape, and memory is a physical, multi-dimensional mold for light.
